You do not have to agree to work on the spot.

Do not hand over cash upfront.
Reputable traders will be happy to provide references and allow you time to consider.

⚠️ Warning Signs

Claims that work is urgently needed.
Offers of "today only" discounts.
Requests for large upfront payments.
Poor quality paperwork or no written contract.
Reluctance to provide contact details.

🏠 Stay Safe

Keep your front door locked until you know who is calling.
Use a door chain or spy hole where available.
If in doubt, say "No thank you" and close the door.
Speak to a trusted friend, family member, or neighbour before agreeing to any work.
